We are honored to wish Selina Wu good luck at the upcoming Horsetooth Open competition this November 3 – 5! Selina will represent the Kingsgate Skating Club for the intercollegiate Senior solo free dance and team maneuvers events.
As a student-athlete, Selina has continued to pursue her passion for figure skating throughout college. Finding a way to balance skating, studying, and other integral aspects of life can be difficult for anyone in the sport. Selina states, “It’s definitely much more difficult to skate as much I did as before, but the days I do get to skate are my favorite days of the week and it helps me get time to myself and take my mind off of school.”
Figure skating is a beautiful sport, and as a club we are grateful for our loving community — but like all pursuits, there are times of struggle that may cause skaters to lose interest. Selina shares, “It’s not hard to sustain because it never really goes away, but I am definitely lucky to be able to continue pursuing my passion since there’s a rink close to campus as well as a figure skating club at our school, where I got to meet so many kind and supportive skaters from my school.”
At our club, we are grateful to have such passionate members who may inspire a new generation of skaters to share our devotion to the sport. For Selina, “There are so many aspects I love about skating. I love the community it builds and everyone I have met through skating. I’ve had the opportunity to build long lasting friendships that stem from a shared interest but are carried outside of just skating. I also love every opportunity I’ve had to work with different coaches and I’ve learned something important from each of them not just pertaining to skating but also in life. Especially my main coach, Meegan, has helped me grow and get through so much in life and has helped shape me to be the person and skater I am today.”
