The Kingsgate Skating Club is excited to recognize our club-member, Leah Rector, for competing in the recent DU Open collegiate competition at Denver, Colorado. As a member of the skating team at the University of Washington, Leah shares, “I enjoy the community of figure skating, especially in the UW intercollegiate club, because we’re all working together as a team and encouraging each other to be the best skaters we can be!”
Like many student-athletes, Leah actively maintains a balance between training and studying. “It really helps to be on the team, because I’m motivated to come to team practices when I might otherwise bail. I skate less in college than I did in high school, but I’ve learned to make those sessions count and take advantage of the longer recovery periods between training,” she states, “A long-term goal mindset is very important to sustaining passion for figure skating. Instead of being anxious about what I can’t do, I focus on small drills and ways that I can slowly build a strong foundation in my skating.”
Great Performance, Leah!
